A Trial by Fire

“Splendid, count me in!” said the golden ferret enthusiastically.

“Why are you here?” asked the startled Butler. “Never mind. Yes, you can come too.”

We’ll do well with the Magician’s protection. Who knows what might be waiting for us down there. Chise glanced over at the Children of Light who gave a hearty thumbs up and a why not?

She looked up to the kedi, “I think I’d like that Mr Butler. I’ve always wanted to see what was in that vault of yours.”

How did she know we were going to the vault?

The ferret hopped in excitement, “You cheeky devil. I bet you have all manners of riches hoarded in there. Can I steal something?”

The Butler patted the ferret’s head teasingly, “We will be retrieving something, something important. It’s actually been calling out to me for some time now but I’ve been ignoring it,” he said shyly, “but I’m afraid there aren’t quite the riches you’re hoping for. Tovey are you coming?” Tovey had a mouth full of food of course and gestured for a repeat. “Would you like to come on an adventure with us after lunch?”

Tovey thoughtfully chewed and swallowed, “I’ll stay here and see if I can convince the Children of Light to work with me in creating a stronger defence for the hostel. I hope by the name of Kurbaga that it won’t be needed but it’s been a long time since I did the last magical maintenance.”

Butler agreed heartily with the idea and ushered all present to set themselves down for lunch. It’s no good going on an adventure on an empty stomach after all.
